Carousel Brainstorm
In this method, divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a large sheet of paper with a different subtopic or idea listed at the top. Allocate a short period of time for groups to brainstorm as many ideas related to their topic as possible. Then have groups pass their sheets on to the next group, and so on, until each group has been given the opportunity to add their ideas to every sheet. At the end of the brainstorming session, post all of the sheets so that they can be viewed by the entire class. Lead a discussion to debrief the activity or return the original sheet to each group and ask them to reflect on all of the additional ideas that each group added to their original brainstormed list. Student groups will roam from computer-to-computer entering what they know, think they know, or relate to the words or questions posted in the graph.
At the end of the unit the students will do a performance task assessment to demonstrate their understanding of the body and how it works as a system.
